The Hardest Working Ushers This Side of Heaven

The Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church usher are honored to serve God as doorkeepers in the house of the Lord, a job that the psalmist wrote about, which declares his pleasure in serving. "I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness."-- Psalms 84:10.

The first usher board of Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church was formed in 1992 in our original location at John West and LaPrada with one usher. Since that time the Lord has blessed our ministry to grow, and we now have four active Usher boards and a Greeter’s ministry.

Our children are from ages 5-12, Youth 13-17, Seniors 18 & up and our MOI are men 18 & up

The Children Ushers are on their post every 4th Sunday @ 8:00 a.m., under the direction of Sis. Vilora Williams, Sis Dana Hammett & Sis Tarnisha Williams.

The Youth Ushers are on their post 4th Sunday @ 11:00 a.m., under the direction of Bro Erick Boger & Sis Janice Augustus.

The MOI (Men of Integrity) Ushers are on their post every 2nd Sunday at both services, under the direction of Deacon Vernon Davis & Bro Erick Boger.

The Senior Ushers are on their post every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays for both the 8 a.m. & 11 a.m. services, under the direction of Sis Denise Yow & Sis Jeanette Bullocks.

As we continue to serve in this craft that we call Ushering under the leadership of Sis. Ruby Carr, our President & Tamara Akens, our Vice President. We thank God for the opportunity to serve Him is such a rewarding way.  We thank God for our continuous growth in numbers but most of all for helping us to grow in our Commitment to Serve Him.  Our President Emeritus was and will remain the late great Mother Florence Walker, who served diligently with pride & commitment until she went home to be with the Lord. She exemplified true faith & commitment and continues to be an inspiration to our Usher Ministry today.

When asked what are the duties of an usher?  Many would say we are here primarily to open the doors and seat people. That is just our beginning. Here, at MFBC, we pride ourselves on being true servants of God.  That is to serve in what ever capacity that we may be confronted with. To God Be the Glory!

Our service starts in the Foyer, with our Greeters.  Under the direction of Sis Donna Lucious, these men & women are here to assist you in your initial entrance into the church to provide you with what you need before entering the Sanctuary. After entering the Sanctuary, there is a staff of ushers placed throughout the building to serve you. This may require that we direct traffic, help to quiet our excited little ones, provide assistance to our Pastor, and to make room in a crowded sanctuary. Thank you for how cooperative you are when we ask you assistance during these times. We are sanctioned to keep order....with smiles on our faces. We do not only serve in our local congregation, but accompany our Pastor on various occasions.  With a Pastor who thinks so highly of his Ushers, we are more than happy and honored to serve under his leadership. And because we are a multi talented board and a diversified group, we function as a family as well. And in each family there are good times and challenges, but because we love each other, we pray for each other, and we enjoy the fellowship with each other in serving the Lord.

The MFBC ushers are TRULY BLESSED. We are committed to service, and happy to answer the call as Isaiah did, here am I, send me.

The Usher’s Motto from the Universal Church Ushers hand book states:  “IF EVERY USHER WAS JUST LIKE ME, WHAT WOULD THIS USHER MINISTRY BE?”
