CHURCH HISTORY
Mesquite Friendship is a Southern Baptist Church started in May, 1991 by a core group of five (5) families who were meeting at Town East Baptist Church at 3113 Town East Blvd. in Mesquite, Texas. On May 8, 1991, the challenge of leading the organization of this work was charged to Reverend Terry M. Turner, an associate minister of the Rock of Faith Baptist Church in Duncanville, Texas. Town East Baptist Church made a commitment to sponsor this effort as an extension work and the Southern Baptist Convention made a commitment to sponsor a new mission work. The new church start began on the first Sunday in June, 1991, in the shopping center located at LaPrada and John West in Dallas.
On the first Sunday of worship, twenty-one (21) believers accepted the challenge of establishing this work. The church continued to see sporadic growth and prosperity for approximately fifteen (15) months, as it remained in the shopping center at LaPrada and John West. The first Sunday in August, 1992, the congregation moved to 2232 Franklin Drive in Mesquite, Texas--a 4822 square foot building. The church purchased three adjacent sections of land and added an 870 square foot wing to the existing building in June, 1997,and a new 6283 square foot sanctuary. In December, 2007, the church finished building a 45,500 sqf. construction project and entered its present church worship center that seats 1500.
On February 9, 1994, the church was constituted as an independent Southern Baptist Church and is actively involved in the cooperative program of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, and the Dallas Baptist Association. Our congregation has experienced consistent growth and renovation, evidenced by a current roster numbering in excess of two thousand six hundred (2600) members.
God has been very good to us and we are truly thankful for the blessings bestowed upon us by our Lord in the short time since the birth of this church.
